Gasparilla Weekend

Let Downtown Yellow Taxi take you to the Gasparilla Invasion!

This weekend is the Gasparilla Celebration in downtown Tampa! Of course, people come from all around Tampa Bay for this event, and Downtown Yellow Taxi can take you there in comfort and safety! The Pre-Invasion Celebration is in downtown Tampa at the Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park on Friday, January 29th, gates open at 5 pm. The show kicks off with St. Petersburg’s own The Hip Invasion at 6 pm. Their afro-pop/indie rock vibes will get things groovin’ before the sun goes down. Next up is Howie Day at 7:30 pm, and at 9 pm, the 2014 winner’s of NBC’s The Voice, The Swon Brothers take the stage. These up and coming stars will be opening for Carrie Underwood in her 40 city spring tour this year.

Then on Saturday, the invasion begins. At 11:30 am, the fully rigged pirate schooner The Jose Gaspar will sail into the south end of Hillsborough Bay, with thundering cannons and flying the Jolly Roger. Numerous private craft will sail out to meet her and defend the city, but as always, will join with the pirates and the massive flotilla will sail to the Tampa Convention Center, where mayor Bob Buckhorn will turn over the key to the city, or else. Upon claiming the key, the pirates will launch their victory celebration parade down Bayshore Blvd on the waterfront in Tampa. The parade begins at Bay to Bay Boulevard, follows Bayshore Boulevard to Brorein Street, turns east on Brorein Street, then curves north onto Ashley Drive. The parade ends at Cass Street & Ashley Drive in downtown Tampa. Full details can be found at the official Gasparilla website, GasparillaPirateFest.com.

If you have never done Gasparilla, it is a spectacle, to say the least. Downtown Tampa will be crowded with people drinking and jostling for very limited parking. Leave the car at home and let Downtown Yellow Taxi take you there; you’ll be glad you did. 727 379-4440
