Here’s a little St. Patty’s Day trivia you might not know; while it is something of just a random drinking holiday in the US, in Ireland, it is a religious holiday, on par with Easter and Christmas. St. Patrick is a revered figure in Ireland, with some 60 churches and cathedrals bearing his name. More than fifteen million St. Patrick’s Day cards are exchanged every year.
More than one hundred cities hold St. Patrick’s Day parades, the largest being in New York City. It has been an annual event since 1762, and attracts more than a millions spectators every year. The first St. Patrick’s Day parade wasn’t held in Ireland, it was in Boston in 1737, 39 years before the Declaration of Independence. More than 100 cities hold official St. Patrick’s Day parades, including Boston, Chicago, and Savannah, and some town like Chicago and even Tampa dye rivers green in honor of the event!
So have fun, be safe, and let Downtown Yellow Taxi be your St. Patrick’s Day Taxi. Erin go Bragh!
(That means Ireland forever!)
