The Mahaffey at 50

Call Downtown Yellow Taxi to check out Through the Lens: The Mahaffey at 50 at the Mahaffey Theatre in downtown St. Petersburg

Downtown St. Petersburg is a truly special place, with a beautiful waterfront, great restaurants, art galleries, lively clubs, and fantastic concert and theater venues. One of the crown jewels of downtown St. Pete is the Mahaffey theater. This spectacular venue has attracted amazing artists and shows for five decades, and to commemorate that history, there is an art exhibit on the second floor atrium entitled Through the Lens: The Mahaffey at 50, and it is worth your time. The exhibition features more than 70 giant, canvas-mounted photographs of artists that have performed at the Mahaffey going back to the 1960’s. The earliest is of of classical guitarist Carlos Montoya in 1965, and the most recent is Lyle Lovett in his performance last November. In between are dozens of legendary performers, including Ray Charles, BB King, Wynton Marsalis, Liza Minnelli, Dione Warwick, george Carlin, Jack Benny, Johnny Mathis, Rodney Dangerfield, Don henley, Carol Channing, Red Skelton, Elvis Presley, and many, many more.

Having a venue in downtown St. Petersburg that attracts giants like these is very special, so the next time you go to a show at the Mahaffey, be sure to go up to the second floor and see Through the Lens: The Mahaffey at 50- A Photographic Celebration of The Arts in St. Petersburg. And when you go, be sure to call Downtown Yellow Taxi for your ride to and from the show.
